Education is fundamental to future success, so choosing the right primary school for your child is vital.

At Shield Row Primary School we a provide a dynamic and nurturing environment that values every child and enables them to gain high self-esteem, morals, confidence and the motivation to succeed. 

 

Respect, kindness and cooperation are embedded into everything we do here in the school and pupils are happy, eager to learn and well behaved.

 

We have fantastic facilities, extensive grounds and a wide-range of extra-curricular activities, including sign language, football, netball, cookery, arts and crafts, games, computing and multi-sports.

 

We work hard to find ways to 'bring learning alive' so you might find us exploring the outdoors, working with a real life author, taking part in drama workshops, having lunch with a roman soldier or even setting up a restaurant in our classroom!

Open & Honest​

Communication about your child never stops. After enrolment  we encourage open and honest feedback and discussion.

 

Communication is essential for growth, so if you have any questions or thoughts or would simply like to discuss your child's education, class teachers are available at the end of every school day.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Shield Row Primary School is where 200+ pupils come to learn, grow and play in a secure, friendly and caring environment.

Catering from nursery to Year 6, our modern, fully-equipped school and expansive sports grounds are unique to the area.

Nursery

Breakfast Club:

We provide childcare provision from 7:45am in the form of Breakfast Club.

 

Breakfast Club runs every school day and offers a wide-range of fun activities such as pool, air hockey, board games, colouring and children's programmes -  displayed on our large cinema screen.

​

The club also provides the opportunity for children to socialise and enjoy a healthy breakfast.

 

Breakfast Club sessions are charged at £2.50 per day with no need to pre-book. Sessions are free for children eligible for income-based free school meals. The club is accessed via the main entrance.

​

AFTER-School Club:

RECHARGE!

Recharge! is our after-school club and provides childcare provision until 6:00pm.

 

An array of activities are on offer designed to allow children to socialise and learn. Activities include outdoor games, lego, arts and crafts and developing basic cookery skills. There is also the option of homework and reading support.

​

There are three options for Recharge!

​

Option 1: session until 4:30pm £4:50

Option 2: session until 6pm £6:50

Option 3: after club session 4:30-6pm £2:50

 

Sessions include a snack and drink.

 

Places should be booked in advance through the school office and payment must be made via Arbor.

Food in School​

​

Children are welcome to choose between a packed lunch or a school meal for lunch.

 

All children in Reception and Years 1-2 are eligible for free school meals. From Year 3 upwards children whose families meet the criteria are entitled to free school meals.

​

School meals are priced at £2.50 per day and children order their lunch choice every morning at registration.

 

Special dietary requirements can be catered for. We operate a zero nuts policy. 

​

All children in school are asked to bring in a water bottle which is sent home every night to be cleaned. Children are actively encouraged to drink water throughout the day.

 

Under the Fruit in School scheme, children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 will receive a piece of fruit each day free of charge.

 

Years 1-6 can purchase a fruit juice, yogurt or piece of fruit at morning break for 30p.

 

Sweets, chocolate, fizzy drinks and energy drinks cannot be brought into school.

Uniform​

​

We believe that a uniform is helpful in establishing good standards of appearance in school and that it helps our children to develop a sense of identity, pride and community spirit.

​

We also have a PE uniform, as we ask the children to come into school in their PE kits on their PE day. 

 

Children are not permitted to wear makeup or nail varnish at school.

Holidays

​

Children are not allowed to take holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

 

School holiday dates are sent out regularly and are always available on the website or from the school office.

 

We politely request that you keep to these dates when booking holidays.

Admissions​

​

Shield Row Primary operates within an equal preference scheme and welcomes all children.

 

We are an academy within Tudhoe Learning Trust. The Trust is the Admissions Authority for all schools within the Trust and operates admissions on the same basis as that used by Durham Local Authority.

​

​

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

 

Normal admissions procedures apply. However, where a Special Educational Need or Disability is identified the school will work with parents/guardians and other agencies to ensure that appropriate provision can be provided.
